Hyper 17-4 stainless steel is stronger than standard 17-4, which allows a thinner, more flexible face without structural compromise. More flex means faster ball speed. Combined with stronger lofts and lower CG, the G430 produces distance gains that don't require sacrificing the forgiveness PING's iron range is built around.

Why It Works

• Hyper 17-4 stainless steel face (proprietary heat treatment): The heat-treating process strengthens the steel beyond standard 17-4, allowing the face to be made thinner and more dynamic without weakening it. More face flex at impact converts directly to faster ball speed and higher launch. The higher max height helps shots hold greens rather than releasing through the back.
• PurFlex cavity badge (seven flex zones): The badge behind the face isn't cosmetic. Seven independent flex zones allow more free bending across the face, extending the fast ball speed zone beyond the centre. Combined with the lower CG, it contributes to solid feel and a pleasing impact sound rather than the hollow response that performance badges sometimes produce.
• Shorter hosel with tungsten toe and shaft tip weights: Shorter hosel lowers CG and aligns it with the force line through impact, improving energy transfer particularly on low-face strikes. Tungsten toe and shaft tip weights push MOI higher for tighter dispersion on off-centre contact.
• Approximately 1° additional bounce throughout the set: Clean turf interaction across all conditions. Reduces heavy contact that produces short, low shots, particularly relevant on tighter fairway lies and in softer UK conditions where the club can dig rather than glide.
• Hydropearl 2.0 chrome finish: Water-repelling finish for consistent performance from wet and dry grass. Spin and contact quality don't vary between a dewy morning round and dry afternoon conditions.
• Gapping solution with 41° PW: Stronger lofts across the set required an additional 41° pitching wedge to close the gap between the irons and standard scoring wedge lofts (45.5°, 50°, 54°, 58°). Worth factoring into your wedge setup if you're buying wedges separately.

One Thing Worth Knowing

The stronger lofts mean the G430 irons will carry further than your current irons at equivalent club numbers. Before replacing your wedges, check the gapping from your 41° PW through to your lowest lofted wedge. The additional PW in this set exists specifically because the stronger iron lofts created a gap that needed filling. If you're ordering wedges separately, factor in the 41° starting point rather than assuming a standard 45° or 46° pitching wedge.
